Notion—You're Using it Wrong
Notion is your toolbox. But you don't have to try and make a screwdriver work for a job that a hammer should do. Utilize notions tools according to the job. Use your toolbox correctly and you won't find yourself using that screwdriver incorrectly.
Are you thinking... what really does that mean?
Notion is built like lego blocks, which means in a sense, we can build out our Notion workspace into whatever we want. But there are inherent limitations to this premise...
For example: to build something using legos, you first need a stable surface to start on, then you need to create the first row of blocks. The stable surface combined with the first row of blocks forms the foundation for whatever you're going to build and will affect the integrity of the entire structure.
How you start your Notion workspace will inevitably affect the integrity of future projects and tasks.
You will find yourself saying:
Why won't Notion allow me to use this database or page this way?
Go back to the foundations of your workspace... Was your foundation built in such a way to accommodate what you're currently trying to accomplish?
For example: is your work life and personal life all mixed together in Notion? What happens when you need to share your task list with someone? They will have access to all of your personal tasks too...
Why won't Notion allow me to share just my work tasks?
Go back to the foundations of your workspace... wouldn't it be better to create a separate database for your personal tasks and work tasks? Then you can create a personal dashboard that shows a linked database view for these separate databases. This frees you up to share your work related task database accordingly.
Notion will probably expand on this functionality at some time in the future and allow specific database views to be shared... BUT don't set up your building blocks with this expectation...
That's like Tesla creating their cars now with no steering wheel because inevitably self-driving technology will take off...
Would that be sound reasoning? Go back to the foundations of your workspace...
